About Brittany Ricketts
Brittany graduated from Santa Clara University in 2016 with a degree in Marketing, Communication, and Ethnic Studies. After graduation she spent a year of service with City Year, an AmeriCorps program, working as a volunteer teacher in East Side San Jose. Brittany then returned to Santa Clara University to earn her law degree, graduating in 2020. During her time in law school, Brittany was involved in various clubs and activities such as La Raza, Women in Law, the Family Law Society and worked as an Academic Tutor and Mentor in the Academic Success Program.
She studied abroad during her 1L summer in Costa Rica, learning about International Human Rights law and spending time at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. By the end of her 1L year, she had earned the Witkin Award for Excellence in Legal Research and Writing.
During her 2L year, Brittany clerked for the Honorable James Towery at the Santa Clara Superior Court focusing on family law, specifically Hague Convention disputes. She also participated in the Record Clearance Project with San Jose State, learning about expungement law and employment rights of people with criminal convictions. Additionally, Brittany volunteered at the Domestic Violence Coalition, and focused her law school studies on interpersonal violence law, writing papers about the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women’s Act in 2019, and the pitfalls in our system for male survivors of interpersonal violence. By her 3L year, she was a competitor in the Honors Moot Court Internal Program and served on the HMCI Board on the Problem Committee.
Brittany brings with her a strong passion to give back to her community and an unwavering commitment to helping families navigate a complicated legal system during a difficult time in their lives. Brittany’s hobbies include traveling the globe, cooking and baking (inspired by The Great British Bake Off), playing board games, and practicing the guitar and drums.
