Alistair Shaw is an attorney at LPEP and Chair of the Family Law Section.
What do you like about practicing family law?
A: I love being able to help families thrive. In my opinion, Family Law is the area of the law that is the most invasive on people’s lives outside of criminal law. However, unlike criminal law, most people don’t realize all of the ways family law will impact their parenting, their children, their finances, and their daily life. So, I enjoy being able to help coach people through all of those changes and help them make the decisions that are best for them and their families.
What strengths do you bring to the game?
A: I am a well-balanced attorney. I see myself as having two separate roles in your case, and I keep those roles separate in order to provide you with the optimal attorney experience. My first role is to provide you with advice, whether or not you want to hear it. This helps you to have a realistic idea of how you should be approaching your case. My other role is as your advocate. Once you have made an informed decision, I will fight for what you want with every tool I have.
Something about you?
A: I was born in Peterborough, England. My family moved to the United States when I was a child. To this day, I am still very connected to my English roots. Now, I am settled at home in San Jose with my wife, Emily, and our three-year-old Corgi, Joey. I got my undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley, and am still a huge fan of my Golden Bears sports teams. Go Bears!
