Mitchell Ehrlich is one of two Managing Partners and Shareholders at Lonich Patton Ehrlich Policastri PC and has been one of the cornerstones of the firm for over 27 years. He was instrumental in guiding the firm from what started as a modest team of three attorneys to its robust practice of 18 lawyers. With his guidance and leadership, he has helped make LPEP the premiere and most respected Family Law and Estate Planning law firm in the Northern California.
Mitchell is a California Certified Family Law Specialist and his practice focuses on litigation and trials of complex family law matters. He has received numerous professional awards and recognitions throughout his career including be named a Super Lawyer and an AVVO top rated Lawyer for over ten years running.
Over 27 years, Mitchell has built a reputation for being an aggressive litigator with extensive knowledge of Family Law, a keenly strategic trial lawyer with a commanding courtroom presence; he works tirelessly to obtain favorable outcomes for his clients at trial.
Mitchell has substantial trial experience, having tried over 50 cases to verdict covering a wide range of family law issues including disputed division of high net worth assets, business valuation and characterization dispute, intellectual property issues, breach of fiduciary duty claims, foreign asset issues, equity compensation disputes, long-term spousal support matters, child custody related matters including anti-abduction cases, date of separation trials, as well as annulments and domestic violence trials.
Mitchell has developed a specialty practice representing professional athletes in various family law related matters, ranging from contested paternity actions, child custody and visitation disputes litigation of support and preparing complex prenuptial agreements.
Not limiting himself to litigated matters, Mitchell routinely takes cases through complex negotiations at mediations and private settlement conferences. He is a shrewd, prepared and experienced negotiator which when combined with his reputation as an aggressive and experienced trial lawyer allow him to deliver favorable settlement outcomes for his clients.
Mitchell is very aware that his clients are in an emotionally stressful and financially difficult situation, where their futures are uncertain and where making decisions can be difficult. Drawing on his Economics Degree and prior experience in finance, he can easily analyze and explain in simple terms the many complicated financial issues that many Family Law matters often entail. Mitchell provides his clients with timely, detailed personal attention and compassion. He provides a clear goal-oriented approach to their cases. Relying on his thorough understanding of the law, his extensive litigation background and his experience handling sensitive matters, he confidently guides and counsel his clients, working tirelessly to achieve their goals, with the highest degree of professionalism.
Mitchell is a member of the California State Bar, Santa Clara Bar Association, San Francisco Bar Association and Beverly Hills Bar Association. He engages in many professional activities including volunteering as a Judge Pro Tem for the Santa Clara County Family Court and Traffic Court and for over 23 years, he has served as an Arbitrator for the Santa Clara County Bar adjudicating attorney client fee disputes.
Mitchell is deeply engaged in local government and civic leadership. He is the Chair of the Board of San Jose’s District 9 Leadership Group and he is a member of both the City of San Jose Airport Commission and the Santa Clara Valley Water Board Environmental Water Resources Commission. In years past, he has served as Chair of City of San Jose Traffic Appeals Commission. For more than a decade, Mitchell has served on the Board of the Willow Glen Neighborhood Association (WGNA), a 501(c)(4) organization representing more than 50,000 Willow Glen residents. He has served as President, Vice President, and Treasurer and has worked closely with City of San Jose and Santa Clara County elected officials to advocate on local issues including housing, neighborhood beautification, and homelessness.
Born in Schenectady, NY, Mitchell grew up and has lived in San Jose his entire life. He graduated with a BA in Economics from UC Santa Barbara in 1993. After working in finance for several years, he attended Pepperdine University School of Law where he graduated Cum Laude in 1998. At Pepperdine Law he made the Deans Honors List numerous times, earned multiple scholarships, and gained valuable experience working for the Washington D.C. Public Defender’s Office, the U.S.D.A, the Forest Service Legal Dept and the U.S. District Bankruptcy Court.
